Yes, for many structural glazing and architectural cladding applications, our 100% solid acrylic foam tape (VHB-equivalent) is widely used to replace rivets, screws, and welding. Its viscoelastic properties allow it to absorb dynamic wind loads and accommodate the thermal expansion differences between glass and aluminum frames, preventing the stress-cracking that often occurs with rigid mechanical fasteners. It also provides a smooth, invisible exterior without drill holes.
Acrylic structural tapes are pressure-sensitive and viscoelastic. Upon initial application, they achieve approximately 50% of their ultimate strength. At room temperature (20°C-25°C), it takes 24 hours to reach 90% strength, and 72 hours to achieve 100% ultimate structural bond. Applying firm pressure (using a J-roller) during application is critical to ensure full contact with the substrate.
Surface preparation is strictly required for structural glazing. Both the glass and the aluminum/metal frame must be completely clean, dry, and free of dust, oil, or release agents. We recommend wiping the surfaces with a 50/50 mixture of Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA) and water, or a dedicated architectural surface cleaner, and allowing it to dry completely before applying the tape. For low surface energy (LSE) plastics, a primer may be required.
Absolutely. Curtain wall systems often require specific tape widths (e.g., 12mm, 15mm, 25mm) to fit the exact dimensions of the aluminum mullions and transoms.
